Getting your Family Room Ready for Holidays

11 December 2019

It is already December and it is so nice to listen to classic Christmas music on the radio. The holiday season is here!
Christmas tree is up, our home is decorated and the Elf on the Shelf has arrived. I hope you enjoy all the Christmas activities that get you into the holiday spirit too.

If you are hosting this year, soon enough, your family room will be filled with presents and loving family members for the big holiday celebration. There is still time to make sure your living space encourages the party and acclimates guests with ease.

Consider the following tips to get your family room ready for the holidays:

1) Organize

Beautiful well organized family room

The first step is any room transformation is decluttering. Get rid of that stack of old magazines and another odds and ends that are holding the room back from its full potential. It is a good time to remove any extra furniture like a spare side table that does not really fit or you has not been used in a year. Make more space by purging everything with no purpose or function as if you were preparing your home for showings.

2) Establish easy traffic flow

Rearrange sofa, chairs and tables to encourage guests to glide seamlessly through the space.

3) Revamp your conversation area

Rearrange your furniture in a way that everyone can sit facing each other and does not need to raise voice to be heard or stretch to reach a glass of eggnog. Having ample seating for your guests is the key to a successful celebration.

4) Create the vibe

Once the space is in order, think about refreshing the theme and decor. If you want to achieve a look that matches the intimacy and cheer that comes with the holidays, perhaps a darker colour palette can help you achieve this. Romantic red and neutral accents make a gorgeous option that matches the holiday vibe.

5) Don’t forget the final touches

Last but not least: There is no better way to seal the deal on a redesigned room than with a few final touches. Candles or fresh flowers can be the icing on the cake to your new and improved family room. Consider seasonal bouquets and scents inspired by the holiday season.Preparing for the holidays can be stressful enough.
